          Hello and you are welcome.

After, I had my blod clot and learning how pregnancy could change your hormones, I think I was too chicken to want kids anymore after talking to women at work. I was always afraid of getting another blood clot which left me in the hospital for 45 days and a 50/50 chance of living or dying. I believe you that giving birth beats panic disorder any day. There are some good sites to visit for anxiety disorder

          http://www.haveahealthymind.com/

I have talked to this Dr. many of times when he offered my homeopathic doctor advice and his Dr. Brown's take on the following I did order but felt like I was being screamed in Lucinda's tapes but her relaxtion tape is great! Is Lucinda Bassett's site is

          http://www.stresscenter.com/mwc/

I wouldn't pay the cost for the tapes up to you as I see if the library has a set. Her site and information is good as is Burn's Feel Good Book, they all deal with cognitive therapy and Dr. Andrew Weil has a good breathing techique for when we are anxious our breathing is shallow.

Dr. Brown is a big supporter of

           http://us.artofliving.org/

I took the above course and it was great as there was just four of us at half the cost but the latter Satsungs where we did the breathing work, it is kind of hard to explain since the move I haven't practice it. You have different stages of breathing starting out slow and then later fast down to slow. You have to read about it. The meetings moved and things changed so it wasn't in my area and I wanted more of the social aspect after the meeting wasn't there as people left afterward and I would have rather seen the ocean and meditate there. And hung around talking to people at the beach..

If you find the magical cure let me know

          Take care

Thats true starshine.I went without treatment until 5 years ago and I have very few panic attacks now.I had horrible periods and pms which continue till this day.The low dose pill did help but made me sick to my stomach. The only time I didn't have attacks was when I was pregnant.Go figure. The meds I am on now ,I don't have the side effects as I have been on them awhile but I would rather give birth on a city street then have the panic attacks I have had.

Thank goodness I found a doctor who actually listened and checked my sugar, heart and other things before reaching a diagnoses. In the past I was given medicine for upset stomach because as you know, symptoms include stomach upset and diarhea.

Anyway ,I feel much better but wish I could find a magic cure.

Anyway thanx for your helpful comments starshine and who knew.

          Thank you whoknew

I understand but when I took the pill in 10 grade to straighten out my period OMG, I felt like an old lady. Everything got bigger the one thing that stayed big were my boobs after getting off them. Then when I was 24 I took a low dose and ended up with deep vein clot that was 30 yrs or less ago and my doctor told me, doctors don't let their wives take the pill as they see patients like myself in the hospital. I had a friends sister die from the pill back then due to heart attack at 32 and she was healthy. Another friend almost bleed to death.

People react differently but hormone replacement on the news and in my blog causes lung cancer now.

I am against the birth control pill and know the late Jerilyn Ross helped many out with agoraphobia hope I spelled that right and Lucinda Bassett opted out of anxiety meds and started her own program with a doctor how to lessen panic attacks as once you have them some stressful circumstance can cause them to pop up again.

Panic attacks are no fun as many know but you really have to be careful on what you choose to medicate yourself with not to have the panic disorder. Heck Xanaz used long ago, would have people eating, like I had to ages ago and I was comsuming 2500 calories a day till it mellowed out with homeopathy and I did a lot of grin and bear it with them too. I had them when I was 10-12 years old and didn't know what they were. I just get up in the middle of the night and have a horrbile feeling and sleep with mom. It wasn't till I was 40 yrs. old when losing my job the stress for two years of that brought it all to a head and I found out reading an article in the paper what I had.

I am not for the heavy drugs they use for anxiety nowdays like amblifly, zyperexa etc., as they are intended for other mental illness.

Stress brought on my anxiety and later the change of life going through that was really a trip not in the anxiety department but the hot flashess and losing hormones. I love to have my hormones back but not through a pill.

I have heard of people being on 4 prozacs and doing natural things getting down to only 2 prozacs and this was for depression.

You really have to question the side effects of anything you are taking. You have to be proactive in your health.

          Thanks for your input.

          Thank you starshine...

I understand your concern. In my experience with anxiety and panic, I have found that my symptoms were centered around PMS. After trying every possible medication to alleviate the symptoms, it was a physician's assistant who made the suggestion and finally offered me some relief. That was over 10 years ago.  I learned the the fluctuating hormones in women can cause anxiety and panic attacks but they can be controlled by birth control pills.

However, there are side effects - as most people are aware and they have to be prescribed by a doctor. No, it may not work for everyone. But for the people it does work for - the relief is unimaginable!

2 co-workers' daughters and even my own daughter  - all in their mid to late teens -  were all having problems: Moody, irritable, depression, all had the symptoms of bipolar disorder. One was even diagnosed with bipolar and given large doses of medication. We tracked their symptoms and found all the symptoms appeared during PMS.  All were given birth control. All their symptoms were relieved. The one who was on the large doses of medication - including wellbutrin and lithium - was taken off everything BUT  the birth control, and abilify.  Their lives have vastly improved. The girl who was on the medication and is now off, was being homeschooled because she was terrified to leave her home- 16 y/o and afraid to go to school! She went to a private school, was very involved with band and afterschool activities. She became housebound at 16.  Now, as a result of the change in meds, she WANTS to go back to school.

So, are women being misdiagnosed?I don't know. I do know that there is something more to this than meets the eye. It should be investigated further. Hormones play a much bigger role than anyone thinksor admits and it should be the first step to diagnosing an illness.   No one should have to suffer through a debilitating illness when it can be easily treatable/curable by a common pill rather than expensive psychotropic drugs that can have devastating side effects.

I also want to add that there are different types of birth control pills - not a one sixe fits all kind of thing. While one may not work, any one might. Also It may not just be the PMS hormones, anxiety could be related to low/high blood sugar or any other number of hormones. Which is why an endocrinologist- a doctor that specializes in hormones - is the one to see and get tested. Birth control is the first and most obvious in my experience.

          Hi whoknew

You know I have high regards for you but I have googled panic attacks and birth control pill helping them and I never ever heard of birth control pill helping panic attacks. I can google where people have had panic attacks using birth control.

And remember birth control pills carry heavy side effects with them so be sure to ask a doctor about those side effects.

You have a great sense of humor ! I love it!

I can suggest modest needs they may be able to help with a small grant towards your car repairs....

also check ways to work... they may be able to help with a low interest loan to repair your vehicle

You mentioned you have panic attacks... just a thought, but they may be related to your hormones. Keep track of the panic attacks - see when they are worse/ better...if they get worse with PMS then a birth control pill might alleviate your symptoms. Also, stop any caffeinated products - they only make the anxiety/panic worse.
